Does anybody know what the MSD RPM modules, used for shift light or rev limiters, do? I know they are a simple 2-wire plug, but apart from that ...

HAve you put a digital multimeter to one to see if there is any resistance, or if it is diode or transistor? i am guessing it plugs in to a series circuit.

Actually, not yet ... just picked the whole crap up yesterday, and noticed I need a couple of them things for the 3way switch ... guess I'll have a look, but I don't think they'd go with a resistor ... I'll take a look at the 8000 RPM module tonight or so ... if I blow it, it doesn't matter, don't think I'd want my 350 to run @8000 as limit ... recon I'll put the 7000 in as a limit for the engine ...

You still want to twist it that high for a safety window?

The RPM pills from Autometer are simple resistors
( http://venus.aros.net/~rbuck/tech/shiftpill.html ),
in Bitburg i carried always a box with cheap coal resistors
with me to adjust my shift light... :D
Otherwise I really could spend a fortune to buy those pills.

I think the MSD ones are similar, perhaps just other resistance values for the different RPMs.

Thanks for the hint - I will definitely measure the ones I have (3, 6, 7 and 8 k RPM) and see ...

I have a window switch on my light coil wire and negative should get it working. Take roys advice and check voltage first. BTW 8000 is pretty high for a built 70's SB hate o se ya break a valve spring!!! Not saying there not out there but they have $15,000 and it is a solid roller setup with a crazy cam not very streetable but they sound really kewl.

No, my point was that I can mess around with the 8000 module, as I won't need it ...
