Probably a lot of it is due to the exhaust system.

Coming to help ya!
1. Rip the exhaust off.
2. Get a stock Z28 US spec exhaust
3. Throw the air filter away
4. get a K&N filter
Voila, 305 hp.
Tried and proven.

As above. Thing is I never worked out the maths of it. If the US spec one is "305hp" but in actual fact is nearer 340bhp, how is the Euro version rated at 284hp (288ps)???? I mean, what is the point?

Maybe to distinguish it from the Corvette which is rated at 345hp?

No, maybe I didn't express myself very well. I understand that Chevy claim 305hp for the LS1 in the Camaro to distance it from the Vette ie they lie about the power output. But I don't get how that 340bhp gets squeezed down to a claimed 284bhp instead of the claimed 305hp unless it's another lie because as I understand it, the Euro Corvette is no less powerful than the US Vette. Why not just claim 305bhp? I may be way off base her, perhaps the exhaust really does strangle it down to that but my first runs at the drag strip suggested not.

I have a all but brand new stock exhaust in my garage that anyone can have for free. It is the stock round twin pipe Chrome end exhaust from my 2001 Pontiac Trans Am Ram Air WS6. It has 5000 miles on it. Comes with muffler. All you have to do, is come get it. FREE. FREE. FREE.

Anybody have an idea if that could be made fit on a 98 V6 Camaro Convertible? If so, I'll take it off you Dunno what TÜV would say about it, though ...
What part is it, from the cat back?

Yes, it is from the Cat back... I had a Borla cat back system put on. On Tuesday, I am having the FLP headers put on. The two together should make it sound awsome. Its loud now, so I can only imagine. As for the stock exhaust, first come first serve. I live in Friedberg, Germany and my handy is 01788097823 for whomever wishes to get the system. Just call to make a date to pick it up.

Gary, you spoke up first! Therefore it's yours I only need it if Jack gets rid of his GMMG. He needs one to put on his car if I buy it. I can't part with mine, one day, I may decide to restore it to original condition

RTZ - tnx ... I'll give it a try, if it should turn out not to fit together, I'll reserve it for you ...
Hochee - I'm down at CatS this coming weekend, and down in Bitburg the week after that - how long is the longest part? Do you think it might fit in a BMW compact? I'm in Hockenheim on the 6th, and could drop by on the way back home ...

Well the exhaust is gone. Someone came and got it today. I still have the OEM wheels for sale. As soon as I get my new ones in. I will let em go for $800 if anyone is interested.

Z28: You took it? But you already have an aftermarket exhaust, haven't you?

Yes, i have an aftermarket muffler. I got a walker muffler. That´s louder than the german specs OEM muffler. But the factory american specs exhaust is louder than the walker *AND* there is a GM part number on it.
The point is: if the TÜV is looking for it, there is a number on it and i can tell them it´s factory style.
