Only problem is, the machine is built for home use no doubt - don't know what speed it has, but I do know it only has one thread - so multiple color embroideries require multiple thread changes ... don't know what amount of load it will allow before breaking something ... ("Can I bore this .030 over?" )

If you get into it big enough, there is some money in it. I knew a guy in Louisiana who had 20 machines with 20 heads each. It took 20 employees just to run them. He was into it big time.

Well, I know they charge an awful amount of money for decent embroidery patterns ... stupid cards with 10 patterns or so go for 150€ and more ... but after trying to get the FBE and 1on1 logos right, I do understand why ... takes quite a bit of planning and thinking ...

There are some available with 4-8 different colors, but in the 4grand and up range ... guess once I have a backlog of 500 pieces, I'll go out and buy a bigger one

Yeah, but you could pump out stuff quick with those multi-colored machines. That could truly be a good business. Just buy boxes of t-shirts at a time, and do many of the same designs. Okay, enough of my personal opinions. I'm just thinking about what I would do!

Well, got my "Christmas present" today (finally) - guess I'll have some learning to do anyway, preliminary info (based on machine calculation) states the FBE logo w/o the black background (that is, on a black or dark blue T-shirt) will take somewhere around 22 minutes, on a lighter background around 29 minutes - plus the time it takes to change the thread in between colors ...
Look out for a sample picture here soon

Hm ... did the first run ... learned a couple things ...
- I'm pretty quick changing threads already - but the machine makes it easy, just pull the threads a couple different directions, fiddle a bit at the needle, use the threader, done ... can be done in a minute ...
- The program lies about a couple things in the preview ... for one, lines aren't as wide as the look ... ended up with some gaps at a couple places ... got to make sure I overlap some more there
- The hint in the manual about putting some chalk mark in the middle of where you want to put the embroidery wasn't too bad - I didn't, and ended up with the logo a bit too far to the left ...
- The font doesn't look to good yet, but that might be in part because:
- the shirt has to be in the frame real good, and shoudn't pull too much ... oh well ...
- The current size maxing out the available space in the frame might not be the best idea - the logo might even look better a bit smaller (like 2-3in). As it is now, it does look pretty good from 10ft away or so ...
All in all, I'm halfway satisfied for the first try ... the old shirt I used has pretty thin, soft material, so a decent shirt should end up better as the material doesn't stretch/pull as much during stitching. Also, from this first sample, I would say I will not be doing the logo on a light background - the way the filled area is stitched, building the black BG from thread will most likely look like a POS ... so, black or dark blue are the colors ...

OK, got some prices ...
T-Shirts (from "B&C") will be about 19€. Heavy cotton, very good quality (from what I am told)
Pullover/Sweatshirt style will be about 29€, from Hanes.
Prices are with the embroidery, and at 20pcs each, so I will want to collect at least 10-12 orders before I get 'em ...
I will pick up samples next week and post a pic ...
Apart from the FBE-Logo, I could also do things like a Chevy logo, or 'vette, etc ...
Also, I will stick with the fonts built into the machine, as the TTF ones I tried were completely messed up ...

As mentioned before, it will have to be dark colors, as stitching the black background isn't an option ... so, either black, dark blue, dark grey, etc. would be reasonable - need to check what's available ...
