Well now that the snow is gone I was out checking the SS makeing sure nothing was wrong with it, and I noticed that the heads were bad the cam didn't have enought lift and the clutch and rear-end were also messed up.

But really i just have been bit with the speed bug along time ago and I'm seriously thinking about biting the bullet and ordering a heads/cam package from LS-1Speed inc. How much of a PITA is it going to be to do the install? I'm going to be shipping the SS in mid March for Guam. Just kinda looking for some ideas on how long it will take. Or if I should just wait till I get to Guam in June and then do it. Any insight on this matter will help greatly. Here's the parts list of evering I need/want. Its a need in my book but the wife thinks it's a want. . . . . . . (damn women)

RGR heads $1799.99
Cam $379.99
Pushrods $114.99
Gaskets/bolts $100
LS6 INtake $449.99
ASP pulley $189.99
Hooker headers $409.99
Y-pipe $169.99
Simms $79.99
NGK plugs $15.99
Taylor wires $64.99
TNT F1 system $649.99

that doesn't include the Moser 12 bolt or the clutch.

Personally, I wouldn't mess with it, unless you have a lot of prior experience, or know someone who does. You really need to make sure you have the #s right. Other people might say do it yourself, but if it was me, I would wait until Guam, unless you have some connections around here. There's just too much stuff to get wrong.

While you're at it, you might as well replace the stock bolts with some ARP head bolts. They're only $150 and will outlast the engine! Good luck!

You could always get a quote from Dieter, the guy who did my car and John's car as well. I'll post his # when I find it. It's in one of the other posts, too!

I did mine myself w/friends but do not rush it and lay everything and double check, read and re-read, research best combinations with best prices. Good luck I could easily change heads and cam in one day under my carport at this point. Lots of hard lessons and weeks of waiting on parts later I got it running

Is that to say that if he drove down there, perhaps with one or two other fbody guys, that you feel confident it could be done rather quickly?

Your not going to get out of first gear on Guam without getting salt water in your intake. :D

I was at guam two years ago for vacation. It is a beautiful place. The water is clear blue, the people there are very friendly. I hope, you have a great time there.

Jens

I didn't realize Guam was that nice. I guess I just hear the word Guam, and assume the worst. :?

Guam is actually pretty cool. The Japanese have driven the prices upquite a bit, but the island is really pretty. The Air Force Base sits at the top of a big cliff. There is a road winding down the cliff to a beach, Turogi Beach I think. There is a beach club there and it is pretty decent. The only bad thing there are the brown tree snakes. They aren't poisinous, but they can get pretty aggressive, eat a lot of cats and small dogs. There are some pretty good jungles too. In the 70s, there was a Japanese soldier from WWII who wandered out of the jungle. He didn't know the war was over. He had been hiding waiting for them to come back and get him. Strange place.

Holy crap, Jerry- that is some funny chit! Wandering around the jungle for ~30 years. Maybe that's where the idea for Tarzan came from..

No kidding huh. That is some real dedication. I remember when it happened. They had a parade for him on Guam and had a huge parade when he got home to Japan. Hard to believe he got such celebrity status for being dumb enough to hide in a jungle for 30 years.

Here is another tidbit about Guam. During the Vietnam war, they flew a lot of B-52s out of there over Vietnam, including up north. Someone found a stash of 500# bombs in a cave that were left from WWII. They sandblasted them and put new fuses and fins on them and dropped them. Wonder how many were duds????

The houses on base are concrete, including the roofs, because of the typhoons. There are vents with screens along the roof and the floor. The ones along the roof are so the wind can blow through during typhoons. The ones along the floor are so the water can run out when it floods the houses.

The last time I was there was about 10 years ago and I was only there for a week for a conference. I can't tell you much about the off base housing. The crime was fairly bad there then. The Guamanians, Chamorros, and the Japanese didn't get along real well. The last time I was there, none of them liked the Americans that well. Can't say what it is like now. In the tourist areas they treated you pretty good, but everything was pretty expensive. Hope you enjoy it. The beaches are great and no snow. Watch out for the typhoons though. They frequently get 200 mph winds.

Sounds kind of like Germany, except for the beaches, Guamanians and the Chamorros.
