When I was driving home from Hockenheim yesterday I was wondering which RPMs (<=> speed) I could go on an unlimited autobahn for a certain period of time.
E.g.: Is it safe to go 5000/min for 15 minutes? That's just an example.
What I mean is: If I had 100km of free unlimited autobahn in front of me, what is the maximum rpms/speed which I could go without damaging my LS1?
(Yeah, probably I'd damage my ears before because of the excessive wind noise above 200 km/h... )

I asked Scott Settlemire if it would be OK to cruise at 130mph for extended periods of time and he said that it should not be a problem. Scott was the Assistant Brand Manager for Camaro and Corvette. Don't know if that helps or not. Basically, you take your risk if you feel it is worthwhile.

Thanks for the replies!
Jerry:
Do you know if he meant in 5th gear or in 6th gear?
SSZ28:
No I don't have an oil cooler. I made some temperature tests on the N'ring and decided it's not necessary. However, I guess autobahn would be a different story...

He didn't specify so I'm not sure what he meant. I would think that you would be OK below 3000-3500 RPM but I am not authority, or even especially knowledgeable. It probably also makes a lot of difference how hard the engine is pulling. If it is straining, it will heat up a lot more.

I usually cruise at 3000 RPM in sixth gear at 140MPH. I have done that for 30+ minutes. However generally I don't go above 4000 RPM for an extended period of time. I find that traffic usually prevents me from sustaining 150MPH+ for anything over 20 minutes.
