Hi,

I am now at the point before apply any mods to the engine I am in need of better brakes for autobahn and autoX. I searched the forum but I am not that sure what to do.

I have now 3 options:
Wilwood superlite 6
Movit 4m6 (4 piston) or 6m3 (6 piston)
the Brembo kit (what a pain alone for the material to shell out nearly 3000 Euro).

The limitation is my friend :hammer: TUEV :bash:

Damn, I prefer to spend this money for a vortech or ati supercharger (after some stroker, header, head, cam .... oh well, you know  but on our autobahn I have to let more distance because of this flabby original brakes. Even Twingos shoo into my security distance - I need a sign in front "Danger, when you brake you end up like a fly on my windshield".

Please give my an advice. Especially from them they have Movits already (I prefer them).

Thanks
Lutz

You still have the stock rotors and pads, right? Before you upgrade your complete brake system, what about first trying some different rotors/pads?

I have experience with the Brembo replacement rotors and Hawk HPS pads on the Nuerburgring and they're quite good!

Thanks for this idea. Yes, it is the stock europe rotor/pad (lil´larger than for the us-market afaik). I think this modification is than in no need of an official approval, or?

I have to free up some money to make a head/cam change (after a deep look into the wallet and long reading session about the best options). So this will be a welcome alternative solution. My Opel-Dealer :x have absolut no clue about this car. He know that this car come from america and that´s all of his "wisdom".

He gave the suggestion of brembo replacments also but wanna have 1100 Euros for this with installation  . I want also much when the day is long, but that sounds like: "go away I can´t build up this strange car". And this without any tuev....

lutz

PS: Somebody here with german licence plate and a GMMG exhaust? They sell it now on there website and I ... must ... resist ... wanna have ... must ... ahhhh ...

In regards to LS1 brakes , there is no difference between Euro spec and US spec models. Brakes are the same.

You mean brake modification? Of course it is, we're living in Germany.

You need either TÜV approval or ABE numbers for both rotors AND pads. However... who cares? Nobody will notice, really. The Brembo rotors I'm talking about look *exactly* like the stock rotors yet they're much better!

Maybe he's talking about different rotors, I mean those:

http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/results. ... &x=85&y=12

As you can see they're only $64! That's cheaper than the stock rotors!
BTW, you really don't need to change the rear brakes; my rear pads are 2 years old now and still thick and that is with a lot of Ring driving.

No, not GMMG but Borla. :)

@Roy: my rotors are a lil´ bigger than stock. So it is possible that the pre-owner do something.

You have the Movits. The 4pot or 6pot? They gave me a very good offer for the 4pot - installation and tuev for 2200, tax included!

@BenZ28
The dealer offered the drilled/slotted ones, but his offer is still expensiv.

Yes, i bought the Borla also. 4 weeks ago there was no offer for the gmmg in the internet and nobody answered my request about delivering one to germany. I modify the borla with a electrical cutout device to quickly adjust the noiselevel in interest of the good relationship with my vicinity . It is the only muscle/american car here around, so the cop have an eye on me every day.

hmm, here I have some fotos of the brakes. Hope it helps to identify the type - standard or not. I compared them to the brakes of the t/a from danix here on the board and mine are larger. Yes, I have to come to bitburg - I see there are technical discussions they can only work from face to face. Sorry for my spoken english beforehand.

The disk itself is 7cm high and 3,2cm thick.

Hope the replacement kit will work so I can spend the money for a cam/head (but this will be a new thread then).

Lupo , Danix has a LT1 Fbody , yours is a LS1 Fbody , So yes your brakes are bigger. But, there still stock though and your complete rotor size 300X32 mm for future reference.

Thank you very much Roy. Then I will try it with the replacement rotors and Hawk HPS pads like BenZ28. Great. Now I can torture you with my cam/head-questions  Thunderracing 216/220 .525/.532 114. Stage 2 Head (probably MTI)..... more will come.

Now I ask my workshop again, what it cost to install the brakes with new brake lines.

Thanks
lupo

These are nice people to deal with and give you a nice low invoice for import purposes.

Hi JackZ28,

I hope to gather more informations before we make the change. Dekra is more "cooperative", but with the sniffer test I am absolut unsure how this parts effect the results.

My plan: Comp Cams LS1 Camshaft - 216 / 220 .525 / .532 114 LSA and the stage 1 or stage 2 heads. Combine this with mac true fit mid lenght headers ... on a borla ... In the other direction is a SLP flowpack and a Granatelli MAF. With the LS6 intake I am not shure if this is necessary for my needs. But as written .. I wait for the garage, what they suggest ... I have to phone them tommorow I lost even my patience.

greetings
lupo

Forget the Granatelli MAF, AFAIK it's only causing new problems...

Ups, the granatelli is already tilled.... its calibrated for the SLP FlowPack ... I read from the problems with after market parts in the intake side, thats why I only use a ported TB no BBK or other (FAST also have problems with quality)
