It was my fault I put more pinion angle in it and forgot to take it out and drove it 100 MPH for 150 miles

@NXZ28
Don, I have contacted http://www.transmissioncenter.net for getting a new HD tranny with the torque drive package and he made me a good offer: 700-E Raptor $2640 shipped. This includes his brands converter up to 2800 stall speed, the torque drive package and the tranny cooler.
But now I actually don't know which stall speed to choose for the torque converter. What is the stall speed of the stock converter? How would a 2800 to 3000 stall affect street driving?
I asked on ls1tech.com about it and was told I should go with a TCI SSF 3500 converter because of my gear ratio 2.73 . But I'm not sure what to take, any suggestions?
Thx.

I would not go with anything less than the SSF 3500 stall. It has great street manners. It retains the lockup function also. Question, do you have the external tranny cooler? This is a must. The tranny won't live long on the autobahn without it. And one more thing to remember, automatics do not like high speeds for long. I cruise at 100-110 mph. That is as high as I feel comfortable with. Now, I do open it up from time to time and burry the speedo but it is only for a short time. The highest I have gotten my converter to stall is 2200 rpm. Anything past that and the rear tires break loose. If you run full slicks it would probably stall around 2800. The lauch is brutal though. Hello subframe connectors and right rear drag bag. Good luck on the tranny install. Are you putting it in yourself? If so let me know and I will let you know some of the problems I ran into.

I'm going to install a tranny cooler with the new tranny this time. My top speed was 182 MPH racing a porsche 997 before my tranny got overheated and I had not a tranny cooler at this time.
So do you think the 3500 stall converter will get hot sooner than one with 2200 stall on the autobahn? I mean even with the torque drive package (good up to 600 lbs ft) and with a tranny cooler the automatic tranny doesn't like high speeds for long?
I'm putting the new tranny with a mechanic of mine so please let me know about your experience and problems you got by putting it on.
Thanks for your informative inputs.

You would have to have some pretty serious mods to have gone that fast, and what's a Porsche 997? What engine mods do you have?
You're gonna need a new engine too, if you don't build that up also! There's a lot of money required to be able to safely drive at those speeds for prolonged periods of time.

Aotomatics are good for breaking down.
but on a serious note , when coupled with a serious torque converter ,automatics can produced some serious torque off the line. that is why their highly prized off the line in drag racing. but for all other motorsports and racing it is the lowly manual transmission.

Manual transmissions take less horsepower for the engine to turn because there is no internal pump in the tranny. Automatics rob about 15-20 hp just to turn the pump and the heavy rotating assembly. If you are wanting to road race with this car then look on Google for Billy Grahams auto salvage. He will ship you an automatic to 6-speed conversion that includes everything for the same price you will pay for the new 4L60E. Only thing is that you may want to change the gear in the rear end. Automatics do not like road racing. They are more for comfort and a serious launch at the drag strip.

It's the successor of the Porsche 996 (which is the current Porsche 911).

thanks everyone for your answers. Actually I'm not 1/4 mile fan, I was never there tho.... well, we'll see this in a week. I'm a high speed fan (freak?? *g*) and I thought my 2.73 gears were not bad for this...
here is my plan http://www.fbodyeurope.org/board/viewtopic.php?p=49555

Roozbeh,
why don't you go with a TH400?

Vadiim,
I actually don't know about the TH400. So I thought that a modified 4L60E would be a good idea. I asked Don about his opinion and he told me about transmissioncenter.net and their 700-E Raptor seems good up to 600lbs ft.
What would be the benefits of the TH400, if any?

It's kinda unbreakable... That's why a lot of 1/4 mile guys are swapping to it.
But if you like high-speeds on the Autobahn like me, you can forget about it, coz it has only 3 gears.
