Today I noticed that it squeaks from under the hood. I think that wasn't there before...
It sounds kinda like an old bike or door that needs some lubricant... And I think that it comes from the drivers side... it's not very loud, but you can hear it even with the hood closed!
seems like I'm joining your club Jack
LS1 with about 30k miles, Inspection done at GM/Opel 4k miles ago, Oil 10W40 5,5k miles ago....
I thought that it might be the coolant that went out a lil when I changed it and was filling it. I cleaned it afterwards, but still...? It got on these rollers or whatever that carry this belt...

Maybe it's just the serpentine belt? Did you check it? Or power steering pump?
Edit: BTW, if I were you, I'd stop having inspections done at an Opel place unless you still have warranty.

I'll check it out tomorrow again.
Well the last inspection was still during the warranty, but I guess I'll never go there.

*gg* - yup, I didn't let them do the last waranty inspection at Opel, as the waranty ran out during the winter when the car wasn't on the road anyway ... guess I'll need to take a look at the Haynes manual and do some car service next spring ... probably have some fun and try changing the spark plugs

Not sure - I don't think my engine is further to the front, I would imagine it's just about at the same place beginning at the firewall, there's just some space left between the engine and the radiator ...

Yeah- there's like 2 feet in front of the engine, but the back is cramped worse than ours Ben! It's ridiculous.

Does the sound change with the RPMs or does it stay the same? I'm sure you checked it but anyway: power steering fluid level is OK?
Jack:
Really? Garry, then I wouldn't do anything to the spark plugs if the cars is running OK.

Does it squeak or chirp?
Chirping is a good indication of a diode going out.
Squeaking , contamination on the belt, or a bearing going out. A/c Clutch dragging. list goes on and on.

It squeaks, but it's not really loud.
I just checked it again. It is like that: I start the engine and there is no squeaking. I wait a couple of minutes untill the engine has arrived it's temperature and then it starts squeaking. When I give more RPM you don't hear the squeaking anymore, bcoz the engine's louder and the squeaking stays the same. It comes actually kinda from the middle or more from the passenger side...

Got a big long screwdriver or a mechanics stethoscope? Lets what is on that side ? A/c compressor, belt tensioner, idler pulley .
You could rule out the A/C by turning it on .

I'd say it's the lower left A/C pulley. Mine used to do the same thing, but I put some wd40 on it, and it stopped.
