In Germany, for german cars, by current rules.

1on1 Bitburg:
http://1on1-motorsports.de/mambo45/content/view/2/102/#english
very simple:
Car with black plates & TÜVable condition = "Public Street"
same car, add mods for the event (slicks, nitrous or other) = "Modified Streetmachines"
same car with expired license plates and use red 06/07/yellow instead
= "Modified Streetmachines" because we do not "tech" but only safety inspection and do not know if it is still TÜVable
same car you decide to make it faster and only run it on drag strips, trailer to race and get a "wagonpass" instead TÜV = "Open"
So there is a possibility for almost any car to "Test & Tune" except it is
a) too loud
b) self build and has no engineer stamp at all
c) a bike, a truck (>2.8ton), a rental
d) by experience we find the car/driver dangerous for everybodies safety
The requirements by speed are listed on the same web page.
In the group "Public Street" is a tolerance on the requirements possible if the driver is an experienced participant and playing it safe.
To give you a sample:
- Jerry drives his SS since two years at Bitburg almost every each event lets say with a best time of 14 and he does not need a rollbar.
- If Jerry on a perfect day luckily goes 13,88 with his SS still beeing "public street" as defined above, I will not make him install a rollbar.
- If he plans to step into Hawks footprints and he is driving 13,51 with Nitrous then I will tell him to install a rollbar before he is coming back
- and if he shows off in the burnout zone like he sniffed the nitrous then I will tell him to park the car immediately.
To sum it up: We go by the rules as on the website but I will keep the right to decide whom I still allow to drive when exceeding the limit by a bit. The behaving of the driver showing allover responsibility, the appearance of the car if it is kept well maintenanced or looks like just modded the hell out of it, all that will go into consideration.

Now for the current official DMSB dragracing rules:
No red or other temporary plates allowed at all on approved german dragraces.
...but we "test and tune"... right?

ok the truth is: I needed a break from Daddy
he p!ssed me off the last FBE meeting... coming back on Sat afternoon from Nürnberg and calling him where you all were (since he asked per sms if I am coming)
and he was misleading me, saying at his house... drove out there but nobody there and the next day I got from Daddy: "sorry this was a joke, Ben and Garry been at the go-kart and the rest of us was on the base"
thanks.... never again.

back to the subject and the question/discussion:
can you live with the rules as they are and the case-to-case decision of up to .x seconds allowance/flexibility in case of
- street registered car
- safe and maintenanced appearance of the car
- good records of the driver (low profile)
or do you prefer to have the times changed but we have to implement more safety measurments for everybody, because then everybody will take the 13.49's and 11.49's for granted.
what do you think? this is still an open - inofficial - discussion.

I think I am in love, runs a track, knows NHRA rules inside and out....
will you marry me?
as a side note I think those rules are very fair to public safety... I ran a 13.6@101mph stock and currently only have a lid, cutout, subframes so I prolly run a 13.5999999 now......
[soapbox]
when I was younger I had a wreck being stupid at around 100-105mph.... at those speeds is not a time to play around. I strongly suggest that anyone running at all should wear as much safety equipment as possible!!! this includes things like tranny blankets, shaft loops, roll cages!! trust me my dad raced A-Fuelers when I was a child and I had to see him lose it at about 170mph and didn't learn my lesson... I don't care if your running a stock honda be as careful as possible, a timeslip is not worth your life!!!!!!!!!!!!
[/soapbox]

To each their own. 1 on 1 has been pretty good with tech inspections and their rules. I didn't really care for the helmet rule last year, but hey, you just deal with it. A good portion of the cars running up there are fairly stock, so there really isn't much to worry about. Be glad they're not checking for driveshaft loops, scattershields, SFI dampeners and flywheels, certified cages, etc. If I'm not mistaken NHRA does not allow you to run a slick on a c-clip axle either.
I personally hate rules, but I feel that 1-on-1 is definitely conservative enough to not create too many headaches.

you *think* ?
I know the DMSB rules better than the NHRA.
and what would be the benefit of getting married?

hm... don't give me any ideas
I tried to make the rules as simple as possible, but we got to set some reasonable rules for everybodies safety. Because we CARE for everybody, others might not.

benefit of two car nuts being married, well I wouldn't have to justify my auto spending as you would already understand. better chance of us (as car nuts) getting each other gifts (go fast parts) we would actually want!
and there isnt much sexier on earth then a girl with an impact gun and a grease smear on her face

in future I will have a better use for the grease of the trailer hitch in Bitburg... instead of wearing it on the jeans !
