In a moment of crazyness I have fitted an oversized motor in my go-kart (always dreamed of having a power/weight ratio exceeding 1000 bhp/ton). however, the exhaust header (or lack of) is driving me up the wall. Space is at a premium, so the 4in1 header has to be constructed tightly.
Unfortunately this is Germany, where NOBODY can do NOTHING!!!! (except tell you it cannot be done).
Does anyone know of a shop that can maybe help me with the bending/welding (preferably in the Stuttgart area)?
Thanks
Stef

The welder at Kapaun might be able to handle it.

How about a shorty set up off a Honda or something?

Tube length, diameter and bends are gonna be critical.
Are you planning to run the header down and under the engine or up and over the valve covers? Too bad you live so far away . Icould help you a lot on the bending and as long as it is not Ti the welding also.

Thanks Roy.
Underneath I only have about 3cm between the oilpan and the road and above the engine is the fuel injection ram pipes and airbox, so the pipes will have to go around the side. I will do a set of cad drawings to plan the thing.
Where I stumble is with the pipe bending. If you can bend the pipes (35mm tubes) then I can patch everything together. I have a man that do the TIG weld for me.
Does your pipe bender handle 35mm tube and can you do tight bends (circa radius 70mm)?
Stef

I would have to see if the dies go that small. Also what is the thickness of the tubing wall and type of metal.

Is there any way to explain that in degrees of arc?

I know a shop in the Ludwigshafen area might be able to do it, if you and Roy can't get it, I would have to call and ask for address/directions.

Got the welder right here !
He is insane as it's obvious that nobody with a normal amount of patience can build that.
He lives in Limburg (Netherlands) which is VERY close to the German border.

Hoping for Garry to paste a link (and host it) of the picture i'm gonna email him as i have no webspace here.

Enjoy !

EDIT: send 4 pics to Garry in the hope he can link and host them for me, the engine btw is a VW VR6 with a Vortech Compressor, stainless steel is used for the headers, they are equal length and can be removed easily using the spring system. Was done this way in order to clear the firewall in a 1988 VW golf mk2 with VERY little space.
Car has 4x4 so it also had to clear the axle going to the back, can be seen on the picture aswell coming out of the transmission.
Engine btw makes 440 Bhp at 0.8 bar boost.
