So anybody interested in forming a syndicate in purchasing a cheap race car? Looking for a bout seven to eight members to get this rolling.

If we are talking about a "driver's" car then count me in. No front drive!

No Front Drives allowed would be the first declaration.

Tell us what you have on your mind.
Warning though: due to different speed/skill levels (or lack thereof judging by most people's standard of performance at Auto-X) this car could likely to end up in the armco sooner rather than later. How are you going to work that eventuality?

Damn! Imagine that. Most people suck at AutoX.

I never thought of that one

I am looking at something that is readily plentiful body type and cheap. The E30 seems to fit that bill. Suspension and brake upgrades seem fair price. This car will basically be stripper, even more so then Guidos lightweight RS.
I would like to use the "Poverty Racing Concept'" but keeping safety and reliability in mind.

I imagine the startup cost would keep most people out . Then there is the maintenance of the vehicle plus the Liability insrance to keep it on the road. Probably need to keep it registerd in the German System.
With 8 people @ 500 euros a piece start up that may get a decent vehicle .
Spare cars and engines seem plentiful at the American wrecking yards over here.

If were lucky and find a ls1 V8, it fits nicely in an E30 and weighs nearly the same.

If you can strip an E30 325 (preferably a 16v) down to about 1100 kg and on sticky tires, you will be the terror of the Ring. Won't need a LS1, that type of power will propably make the car slower.

Michelin pilot cup in 205 50 15 are about 200 USD apiece
Kumho V700 same size 124 USD

Are those stick enough?

Ithink with this tire size and if some has got downto 1100 kg, I cando it to.

The E30 only weighed about 1200 kg, so losing 100kg will be a no-brainer.

If you are going to gutt it, and tune it, don't think about registering it ... not with a german tag at least ... can you say "trailor queen"?

It will do both a autox and ring duty. But it can't be a trailer queen for now. So it will be stripped but left with all safety features on board.
under construction

Hm ...
Quote:

So, he put a 6er in, changed the suspension, other gears, and didn't kick the sh@t out of it? Yea, right ...

I think it's an interesting idea and if I didn't have my Camaro then I'd join. But having it, I'll continue to use it also as a track car (yesterday Hockenheim was fun again).

BTW, a member of this forum just bought an E30!

Ben
