I've been thinking about several different cams but most have been "off the shelf" grinds. All too often we think that the more duration and lift is the way to go. Now I'm by no means the "cam expert"(not even close, thus this thread) but I've been kicking around a few ideas. We all know that with the high lift cams it beats the crap out of the valvetrain and you end up replacing springs all the time.
I've currently got the TR 224/.563/114 LSA with 918s. It's been an awesome cam but like most I'm always looking for something better. The TSP Magic stick 3, G2X3 or 4, T-REX, Hot Cam, Grand Am, & ASA to name not all but a few.
Not sure if I'm the norm or the exception when Auto-Xing & Road Racing I spend 90% of my time in the high RPM range. I've been seriously looking at the ASA grind 226/236 .525/.525 110lsa 2500-6600rpms. What do you think about a 236/236 .550/.550 112 or 110lsa?? Nobody has an "advertised" cam like this but I wonder ....would it work and if so how well. Yes the duration is long but the lift isn't a "valve beater".......... your thoughts and or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

I know we talked about it on the Phone Val.
I did some reasearch and GM sells the completye engine. Its called the 5700 vortec. It only goes for 13,000 . But it does comes with the dry Sump , Ported Heads and upgraded rod bolts. But youhave to have an ASA license to get one.

I wonder how hard it would be to get the specs on it??? While doing research yesterday (after we talked) I found a thread (LS1Tech)about the guys running the LS6s with the GMPP CNC LS6 heads, Grand Am cam, headers e.t.c. 500-550+ hp. Of course we both know that these motors where in race cars. No N2O, blower, turbo......pretty good #s out of a cam that most people stay away from.

Sounds familiar, I'm also having tr224-114 in a 347 and looking into what's next. Though, gaining 15-20 hp peak is probably not worth the loss of driveability, dunno, let's see... Maybe I need to start saving and collecting parts for a stroker bottom end to go with the cam 236/236 with that kind of lsa sounds like you'll need very good exhaust for it to work. With at least some sort of catback my non expert thinking would be to have more duration on the exhaust side and less on the intake, maybe 230/238 or so. ASA and Grand AM cams with there fairly soft ramps would be great for some high speed racing using hydraulic rollers. I wonder how Grand AM cam would behave in a 382 or a 402... What's concerned me with the cams like t-rex is how stock style lifters will live with them. Sustained high rpm with those ramp rates...hmm.. are there rev kits available for LS1s anymore ? Yes I have PP Gold duals waiting to be installed but would prefer a rev kit with LS6 springs

I'm currently running the TR224 114LSA and it has been a GREAT cam. Very pleased with it. I was just kicking around ideas that are geared more to road racing.....still haven't made any decisions as of yet. I've got LT headers and the GMMG now so the exhaust part is taken care of. As for the stock style roller lifters, they seem to be very reliable even with the BIG cams. The LS1/LS6 motors are put together very well and seem to respond very well to build ups.

Even split 236 low lsa requires more like open headers or dumped x-pipe to really work, just my feeling..
Hydraulic rollers often seem to work on 1/4 but how about road racing ? It's the exact same lifter as in SBC and LT1 and going beyond 6500 has always been considered a problem.
Where do you shift ? I have some trouble shifting around 6650, looks as the lifters are pumping up, there is very noticable power loss just before shift. I doubt it is the springs. I'm too having the 918s... now 10k miles on them.. I'll probably try shorter pushrods to take some preload off.
